Recently I got opportunity to visit Far-Western Development Region as that was my first entry to that hemisphere of my country. I often like to visit new places over country. Doti District was our focal destination. About 5-6 yrs before Helvetas Nepal launched the Rain Water Harvest Scheme in participant of local community over 3 the village in Doti District. We were there for research on Feasibility of Rain Water Harvest. When I reached there in the village named "Bafi", Most of villagers were busy in their field; they were preparing land for next crop. It required 1:30 hr to be there. Around 10 am we were there and we had to manage lunch as we had light lunch in Headquarter (Dipayel) doubt whether we got it or not. It’s our fortune that we met the ward’s President on the way, his assist was really helpful. As we just entered into village premises, marvelous portrait of people engaged could be seen with well ploughed land. Through the field we entered to the village. In village shop we pleaded to manage launch. It was quite different language they speak and difficult to understand for us. Doteli language is their local language. After some interaction with people we habituated with that language in some extend as it was not completely different from Nepali Language. We got quite a few questionnaires about Rain Water Harvest. Questions were more related about condition of

•  Health and Sanitation,
•  Economical condition, 
•  Participation in School,
•  Water Quality,
•  Community involvement

Initially, they felt uncomfortable to had interview with us, when they came to know it’s about Gagra, Aakase Pani Sankalan (Storage Tank, Rain Water Harvest), they were excited and ready to tell their experience about it. We continued our work over two days and also carried out Micro bacterial and other Test regarding water. We also had focal member and community meeting over there. Their demand was about the capacity of Storage Tanks and Toilets. Over village there was even no single Toilet. The prompt need over the village is a toilet at meantime. They are always ready to contribute the local resource for development works in their village.Most of agreed that they hardly suffer from those diseases due to unsafe water. They enjoy the taste of water belongs to pot, now a days they prefer rain water rather from spring sources. People also admit they could send their children to school in time after facilities of drinking water their own yard,as often children had to fetch from distance spring source. Almost 3-4 hour was need to fetch water from near spring source for a family. The time they saved from water fetching, they could utilized in field works and much other things too. The out comes we could drawn is that definitely this scheme, Rain Water Harvest has improved the life style i.e Health,sanitation, economical condition in some extend and education too. Disappointing matter is that the community is some what paralyzed, even they aspect support from government and other organization for the general maintenance of that infrastructure(Water Collection Pot/tank-6,500 liter) as they know the preliminary care about the pot/tank. Sensitization about this scheme still required their. We should admit and identify potential they could do so much more thing by themselves too. Let's make them capable.
